Job Title:    Daily, On-call Food Services Substitute

Reports to:   Kitchen Manager

Department:   Food Services

Salary:   $15 per hour

Work Year:   School year, September through June 

 

Job Goal: 

The Substitute Food Service Worker provides kitchen/cafeteria support in our school cafeterias. The Substitute will prepare, present, and serve food as needed to our students and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education: Prefer a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Professional Certification: Not required, but will train in job-specific skills such as ServSafe
    • Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and/or Portuguese, are a bonus
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Ideally, but not required, experience working with children in a school setting
    • Ideally, but not required, experience preparing and serving food for large groups

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

 

  1. Performs prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
  2. Weights and measures designated ingredients
  3. Carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
  4. Stores food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures
  5. Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils
  6. Distributes supplies, utensils and portable equipment
  7. Utilizes approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  8. Serves customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
  9. Resolves customer concerns and relays relevant information to the supervisor
  10. Ensures compliance with company and district service standards and inventory and cash control procedures
  11. Assures compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements
  12. Maintains a physically and emotionally safe learning environment for the students, including when monitoring student transitions to/from activities
  13. Performs other duties as assigned

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: 

  • move about the kitchen, cafeteria, school, school grounds, and occasionally, off-site locations
  • move quickly across even or uneven surfaces on some occasions
  • remain in a stationary position, standing or sitting, for periods of time 
  • reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch 
  • operate school/cafeteria productivity machinery (i.e., a cash register) 
  • input information into a computer
  • read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids
  • lift at least 20 lbs 
  • the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud
